Worshiping Him,
Dwayne Moore
By C. Wiens
I have finished going through Dwayne Moore’s Pure Praise and can’t say enough of what it has done for me as a choir director, worship team participant and sometimes worship leader. I gave a copy to our worship pastor and we will be going through this study with our teams, and perhaps our choir as well. This is an excellent, practical, well thought out study of praise and our role as leaders and partipants. It will absolutely impact your praise and worship life with our Heavenly Father. I like the way Dwayne leads you through the study with thoughts, his own experience, scripture and then practical “hands on” application as he challenges readers to broaden their worship language.

I originally received “Pure Praise” as a pre-release download and have been using it for a devotional tool with our worship team. The studies are right on, relevant, and helpful to center everyone on the reason we do what we do…especially because of the insights into who and Who’s we are. Thank you for this great resource. I would recommend it to everyone, whether they are actually involved in leading worship or not.

Wow! The most superb study ever!
I have just about every “worship” study available on my bookshelves because of my role as a lead worshiper and on the worship team in our congregation. But for me in my personal study, brought more to the “meat” of the Word. In otherwords, 40+years of being raised in the church and as a missionary-preacher’s daughter, it even challenged me!
When I presented this study for approval at our church for an adult sunday school class, (that most of our worship team would be attending as well), it took us 9 months to finally get to bring it to the class and begin to teach.
We have had such fantastic, indepth discussions that we have been able to take our time in covering the chapters. It will take us more than 9 weeks to finish it, but the class group is okay with that because their hearts are ready to be really diligent and personally on their own reach into their minds to expand their knowledge. They are hungry for it.
The age range of our group is 75+ to 24, and so you can imagine the “traditional worship” vs. the “contemporary worship” mindset that brings that dynamic into the study as well.
It has challenged everyone in the group, has brought so much more into theirs & our lives.
I would strongly urge all who bring this study to the group to also get the dvd that goes with it, and also do the group “openers” that are listed in the back of the book, as well as invest in the leader’s “review” of the week questions. All of which are sold separately and you can obtain from the Author’s website.
I would strongly recommend that there be sold as a package deal a separate “leaders” guide & dvd set be made available for “church” or small group study situations. Having to buy them separately put us behind a week, because I didn’t know they were available yet, until I researched the Author’s website that was originally promoting this study.
Be Blessed in your Praise!

Last night, I sat up until midnight reading page after page from Google about Pure Praise. I was overwhelmed at how many churches and people are going through this Bible study. (I remember as I was writing it how I wondered if anyone other than my mom would read it!) However, it has already sold more in 6 months than many books ever sell. Only God could do that!
Buried several pages deep on Google, I came across yet another blog of a person who was reading Pure Praise. However, what this lady wrote took me off guard — and certainly quieted my euphoria a bit from all the great comments I had read from other sites thus far! She wrote, “I was reading Pure Praise, but it just wasn’t cutting it. I found myself going, ‘You know what? I just want to read the Bible.’” Read more…
Author Dwayne Moore has just released a DVD of weekly introduction videos designed to motivate and inspire you and your group to stay faithful to each week’s devotional study in Pure Praise! The DVD includes intro videos for all 9 weeks of the study, plus a bonus Promotional Video to help you promote Pure Praise within your church or small group!
Watch a sample Week 4 Introduction Video from the DVD below!
Nancy Beach served as program coordinator at Willow Creek Church for 20 years and is now the teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church (which averages nearly 23,000 attendees, making it the fourth-largest church in the United States.) Nancy also serves as the executive vice president for the arts at the Willow Creek Association. She is the author of the book, An Hour On Sunday (Zondervan, 2004).
“Pure Praise…is a tremendous tool for anyone in the worship/arts arena of ministry. There is a tremendous need for those of us who have the privilege of leading or designing corporate worship to be private worshipers who are grounded in our view of God. These devotional tools provide church artists and pastors with a rich understanding of the purpose of what we do and the kind of heart condition we need to bring to our God-given responsibility.” — Nancy Beach
Al Lowry heads up a large worship leader training ministry at Saddleback Church in CA. His ministry is called GIG, or Guitarists Into God. He works with zillions of worship leaders. This is what he said about our Pure Praise Audio Devotions that he recently reviewed:
“I am probably the poster child target for your efforts as a ‘non-reader’ who loves audio learning. I really enjoy your very peaceful speaking style with music that is ‘barely there’, unlike some resources I’ve heard that sometimes contain distracting instrumental backing tracks. Besides the great content, I appreciate your delivery right down to the pauses for reflection and periods of just waiting on the Lord.” — In gratitude, Al Lowry
Alas, after several attempts to schedule and reschedule video taping, looks like I will finally get to record the weekly video intros for my worship study, Pure Praise, this week!
These 5-minute video segments are designed to encourage and inspire your small group or worship team to stay faithful to the study each week. I will share some personal insights and give a motivational “sneak peak” into what they will be learning in the upcoming week.
Please pray for us as we record these videos this week up in Tennessee. I usually try to avoid cameras at all cost (!), but these video segments are very important and will be very useful to many groups who use them, so I am committed to getting them done — and not breaking any cameras in the process! :)
Thanks! ~Dwayne
TheWorshipCommunity.com is going together through Pure Praise: A Heart-focused Bible Study on Worship. You can still jump into their amazing discussions of what they are learning during each day’s devotional study. Go here to read the forums and get involved.
Here are a few quotes from the forum discussion during Week 1:
First off, I love where this study is going. It is really making me think about some things.
Wow -this is really good. I desire Him because He first desired me! He delights in us. There is nothing we can do or say that will ever change that.
The “Daily Surrender” portion was GRUELING for me today as I had to be honest about some of the rotten places in my heart.
I think I am getting more out of this study than I ever have in any other Bible study. Thanks everyone!!! And Thank God!!!
I thought I knew what worship is but apparently I have a lot to learn throughout the rest of this study. Today’s reading along with the past two days has already broadened my definition of worship. Read more…
The following article by Dwayne appears in Rick Warren’s Ministry Toolbox, Issue #371. This is an excerpt from Pure Praise: A Heart-focused Bible Study on Worship. Specifically, this is taken from Day 1 of Week 9 called Finishing Well.
If we are to finish well the mission God has given us on this earth, one very important principle we must employ is to keep fighting.
“I could still hold my weapon. I could still walk. My legs weren’t blown off. I wanted to finish the mission.” That was Lance Cpl. Jaime M. Magallanes’ attitude when he was wounded by an enemy sniper while on a patrol in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, March 23, 2003. Amazingly, the young warrior ignored his injury and turned his concerns toward his fellow Marines and their mission. “We wiped his wound down and dressed it,” said a Navy lieutenant. “We also listened to his lungs to see if he was breathing fine. He was cool and calm and said he wanted to return to the fight.”
Well has it been said that all Christ followers must recognize that the Christian life is not a playground but a battlefield where conflicts are won and lost in real spiritual battles. No matter how difficult the fighting becomes for us, as Christians we must never quit. Alfred Plummer observed that “Military service is either perpetual warfare or perpetual preparation for it…The soldier, so long as he remains in the service, can never say, ‘I may lay aside my arms and my drill; all enemies are conquered. There will never be another war.’”

A girl in the Phillipines is going through the Pure Praise worship study with her church’s youth group. She blogged about what she learned in Week 1 (Understanding Worship). She said she had always felt guilty that she wasn’t singing and focusing on God every moment. She knew worship should be a lifestyle, but she was confused as to what true, Biblical worship encompasses.
After going through the first week of Pure Praise, she said, “It really was a light bulb moment for me…God is pleased with me simply because I am His daughter. And because I am pleasing God, I am worshiping Him.”
Go here to read her blog post.
“Pure Praise is a refreshing and greatly needed tool in the Body of Christ for both worshippers and worship teams. The goal of this study is NOT to help us fall more in love with worship; rather these daily, intimate encounters with God can help us fall more in love with our Father–which is the very essence of Biblical worship. One of the most compelling aspects is Dwayne’s emphasis on musicians being ministers through music. This study has the potential to transform entire worship teams to see themselves first of all, not as musicians and performers, but more importantly, as servants to other people and to the Most High.” — Darlene Zschech, Hillsong Church, Australia
