I have finished going through Dwayne Moore’s Pure Praise and can’t say enough of what it has done for me as a choir director, worship team participant and sometimes worship leader. I gave a copy to our worship pastor and we will be going through this study with our teams, and perhaps our choir as well. This is an excellent, practical, well thought out study of praise and our role as leaders and partipants. It will absolutely impact your praise and worship life with our Heavenly Father. I like the way Dwayne leads you through the study with thoughts, his own experience, scripture and then practical “hands on” application as he challenges readers to broaden their worship language.

I originally received “Pure Praise” as a pre-release download and have been using it for a devotional tool with our worship team. The studies are right on, relevant, and helpful to center everyone on the reason we do what we do…especially because of the insights into who and Who’s we are. Thank you for this great resource. I would recommend it to everyone, whether they are actually involved in leading worship or not.

Wow! The most superb study ever!
I have just about every “worship” study available on my bookshelves because of my role as a lead worshiper and on the worship team in our congregation. But for me in my personal study, brought more to the “meat” of the Word. In otherwords, 40+years of being raised in the church and as a missionary-preacher’s daughter, it even challenged me!
When I presented this study for approval at our church for an adult sunday school class, (that most of our worship team would be attending as well), it took us 9 months to finally get to bring it to the class and begin to teach.
We have had such fantastic, indepth discussions that we have been able to take our time in covering the chapters. It will take us more than 9 weeks to finish it, but the class group is okay with that because their hearts are ready to be really diligent and personally on their own reach into their minds to expand their knowledge. They are hungry for it.
The age range of our group is 75+ to 24, and so you can imagine the “traditional worship” vs. the “contemporary worship” mindset that brings that dynamic into the study as well.
It has challenged everyone in the group, has brought so much more into theirs & our lives.
I would strongly urge all who bring this study to the group to also get the dvd that goes with it, and also do the group “openers” that are listed in the back of the book, as well as invest in the leader’s “review” of the week questions. All of which are sold separately and you can obtain from the Author’s website.
I would strongly recommend that there be sold as a package deal a separate “leaders” guide & dvd set be made available for “church” or small group study situations. Having to buy them separately put us behind a week, because I didn’t know they were available yet, until I researched the Author’s website that was originally promoting this study.
Be Blessed in your Praise!

Think you have it tough getting to church on time?
On 40 Sundays of the year, Dwayne Moore packs his two sons, 10 and 14, and his wife into the car at 6:30 AM. The family drives from Huntsville to Hoover to lead worship at The Church at Ross Station.
“And my wife hasn’t left me yet,” Moore said, laughing about his extraordinary Sunday commute.
Moore brings his enthusiasm for Jesus, worship and helping other worship leader to the workshops he take around the nation. On Aug. 15, he’ll be the headline speaker at a one-day conference for worship leaders and for the volunteers who help them sing, pray and inspire others.
“Any time you retreat and focus on why we do what we do, it’s going to be a good thing,” Moore said.
The conference includes three workshop periods offering the how-to’s for a variety of topics, Read more…

Pure Praise is a great worship-focusing tool. With seven topics inside nine weeks, Mr. Moore has a potent and relevant way of focusing our attention on what we do in worship, how we do it, and why we do it.
My team and I really enjoyed building our understanding of the central passage, found in 2 Chronicles 20. This particular story is one not commonly “unpacked” for study, but it became especially influential as Mr. Moore walked us through the methods and means used by the people of Judah. I had never before viewed this particular story as one teaching on worship. Now, I’ll never forget it. We also found ourselves enjoying the group discussion tool at the back of the book, which accompanies each week’s study. Knowing I could work through the study day by day (as my team did the same) and have a tangible group tool ready to use was of great significance to me. Many of the exercises within the group discussion helped us develop community and learn more about each other. Pure Praise is a tool I will use over and over as I develop my team toward heart-felt, expressed, pure praise.

This is a must-have for all worship leaders and their teams. Tom is an awesome leader and a great writer. He captures a lot of great thoughts in his book Pure Praise. You MUST read this!!

I am a worship leader and usually rely on Oswald Chambers to wake me up with my bible reading. It is essential, in my opinion, to walk with the Lord from the morning to evening. I have read (tried to read) many other devotionals that have laid flat like a proud spirit before the Lord. When I started to read Pure Praise I was challenged in ways Mr. Chambers had never done. I am not saying that My Utmost for His Highest is lacking, I am just saying that he has an application that is not specific for worship leaders like “Pure Praise” is. I love this devotional and will use it again and again. May God continue to use Dwayne Moore more and more….and You as you read it before the Lord and Savior.

I first heard about Pure Praise, A Heart-Focused Bible Study on Worship from Rick Warren’s weekly e-mail to pastors. I’m a minister at a university campus-focussed church and a member of the worship team. After reading Pure Praise, my depth of worship has dramatically increased. Moore has written a book that is extremely approachable and easy to relate to for young people, but also has a lot of meat for the more mature. He’s written a good blend of material that focuses on the Lord, worshipers in the Bible, and practical advice for modern worshipers. He is respectful of denominational differences and recognizes that some forms of worship aren’t as “popular” today. He encourages the reader to step out of their comfort zone and into a place of Pure Praise.
The way I read the book each morning was with my Bible program and a notebook (Word document) open. I recorded 17 pages of scriptures, Strong’s Concordance references, quotes, and notes that I find myself referring to frequently. [I'm starting to write worship songs and have found a lot of song ideas in the themes of the book. The same would hold true for Word study topics, sermon topics, etc.]
The book is not meant to be read cover-to-cover in one sitting, but rather it drives you daily to the Word and to prayer.
Here is a brief rundown of the weekly topics:
Week One: Understanding Worship
Week Two: Understanding Praise
Week Three: The God We Worship
Week Four: Hearing God’s Voice
Week Five: Five essentials of effective worship services
Week Six: Qualities of Leadership
Week Seven: Using Our Tools Wisely
Week Eight: 5 goals for lead worshipers
Week Nine: Five Keys to Finishing Well
I have now given my copy to our worship leader in hopes that our whole worship team might go through the study. If you’ve gotten this far in the review, I’d advise you to spend the few bucks to buy it. You’ll find it is money well invested!
By R. Burgess “MandoRon” (Wichita, KS USA)
This is a great study for pastors, worship leaders, singers, musicians, or even members of the congregation. The author, Dwayne Moore, does a great job of leading us closer to the heart of God. It’s not just about music and song choices, but learning to worship God with every fiber of your being.
The study is nine weeks, five lessons per week. Each lesson takes about 20 minutes, and is grounded in scripture and prayer. The study centers on the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20.
My relationship with God has grown much stronger, and I’ve learned what it truly means to worship God.
